Brigham City Rotary Club had the great honor today of hearing
from our new District Governor
Penny Atkinson.
What an inspiration to hear from her as she shared her experiences,
goals, and vision for District 5420 in 2010 - 2011.
She is a powerful example of the values of Rotary
and the excitement that each of us should have for this
powerful organization.
She emphasized the importance of being Rotarians
not just belonging to Rotary.
She spoke of how close we are as an organization
to wiping polio from the face of the earth.
From it's beginnings in 1985,
Polio Plus has reduced the number of polio cases worldwide
from over 350,000 cases a year
to less than 2000 in 2008!
And Rotary, including each member of our club,
has been the catalyst in making that happen.
But there is more to do!
She also encouraged everyone to attend
the All Clubs Event in Salt Lake this January
as well as the District Conference in Cedar City in May.
This is the Centennial Year of Rotary in Utah,
with the Salt Lake City Club being the first club chartered in Utah
100 years ago!
It's a great time to be involved in Rotary!
