PEACH DAYS!!

Peach Days is upon us! There is excitement in the air and there are raffle tickets to be sold!

If you have not yet picked up your tickets, they are available at Club meeting. We will also be getting your tickets to you if you have been unable to pick them up yourself.

Just a reminder, each Rotarian is responsible for the sale of 150 tickets. Each bundle contains 200 tickets. If you are unable to sell all your tickets, please return the unsold tickets to Travis Rose so we can keep track and have the opportunity to get as many sold as possible.

If you want to sell your tickets at 11 for $10.00, that is your option, but you are still responsible for accounting for the tickets you have been given. Use the 4 Way Test if you have questions....

We have a change in prizes this year. The following are the prizes that will be awarded to lucky purchases of tickets:

1st Grand Prize: $1000.00 in Kent's Market Coupons
2nd Grand Prize: $500.00 Les Schwab Tires Gift Certificate
3rd Grand Prize: $350.00 Wal Mart Gift Card
4th Grand Prize: $200.00 Maddox Gift Certificate

This is our big fundraiser for the year. Let's make sure it is a viable fund raiser for our Club and a great opportunity for our Club to be seen in the community!

Tuesday August 25 - District Governor Visit

Tuesday we were honored by the presence of our District Governor, Gil Trujillo and his wife Pat. Also in attendance was our Assistance Governor Steve Skinner, who introduced Governor Gil. Gil Trujillo serves as the 94th Governor of Utah Rotary District 5420

Governor Gil spoke on the importance of Rotary objectives and encouraged all members to be involved in the many areas of service provided by Rotary including: Youth services, Polio Plus, literacy, and clean water.

He also made note of our Club of the Year designation in 2006 - 2007 and encouraged us to continue to work toward garnering that distinction again.

It's quite obvious that our District Governor is committed to the Rotary cause and is very excited to see our club succeed in our projects locally and worldwide. He also spent time with the Club leadership reviewing our goals and commitment to the objects of Rotary.

Pat shared a presentation by our International President John Kenny, and then encouraged all members to attend the District Conference that will be held May 13 - 15 2010 in St George. She presented Sgt at Arms Ken Kennedy with an apron to wear at Club meetings reminding everyone of the District Conference. You can find more information about District Conference at http://www.utahrotaryconference.blogspot.com/.

Banners were also exchanged with Governor Gill presenting the Club with an international Banner and President Barber presenting a Brigham Club Banner in return.

It is always a pleasure to host the District Governor and this year was no different. Thanks Governor Gil Trujillo for your service and for your message to our club!

AUG 18, 2009 - ROTARIANS AND SONS

It was Rotarians and Sons day today at brigham City Rotary Club.
We had a full house as many Rotarians brought sons, grandsons, sons-in-law, daughters, wives and other guests to hear a great speaker.
We were privileged to hear from Larry Gelwix, "The Getaway Guru" of Columbus Travel and the head coach of the Highland High Rugby team, well known for they're portrayal in the recent movie "Forever Strong".
Larry is a world traveler and has many great stories and anecdotes.
He shared a number of humorus questions he has been asked over the years as a radio talk show host in the field of travel.
Larry also spent time sharing his philosphy and wisdom from the world of High School sports, specifically as it relates to the rugby team he has coached for the last 34 years.
Rotarians and guests were treated to two of the areas of his coaching (and leadership)philosophy:
1. Go Horizontal
2. Don't Play With Snakes
If you weren't in attendance and you're interested in what those entail, contact a fellow Rotarian that was in attendance and get an update. You missed out....

Fellowship Token from Knysna South Africa

While in Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales, Club President Brad Barber and his wife, Annette were given stewardship over a very unique wooden "Fellowship Token" which was originated by the Rotary Club of Knysna South Africa.
We are to keep the token in our club until it can be presented to a visiting Rotarian from a foreign club.

A letter has been sent to the Rotary Club of Knysna reporting the status of the token and asking for information from them as to its origination date and its travels throughout the world.

An update will follow once we hear back from them.
