We took a detour and held meeting on Wednesday this week to accommodate our featured speaker.
We had the privilege of hearing from Amy Wilde as she discussed her experiences and the importance of not only a persons own "real beauty" but the need of "being the one" in the life of another person and providing strength to those around us each day.
Amy lives in harper Ward and grew up locally. She works in Ogden and is a regular contributor to KSL, The Mormon Times, The Deseret News and many other publications.
She will be releasing her book "White Bees" this fall which is a personal memoir of her experience dealing with life and its many challenges.
Thanks Amy for sharing you're amazing, and very touching, story!

ANNUAL CLUB STEAK FRY
The annual Club Steak Fry was held last evening at the home of Rotarian Dave Lewis. The food and fellowship were so good, I forgot to take any pictures!
We had a good crowd in attendance but not as many as there should have been.
Special guests included:
LouAnn Thompson and her husband. LouAnn is the BE Interact Club Advisor at the High School.
Brian and Sherry Sandlian. Their son Paul is currently in Brazil as a foreign exchange student from Brigham City.
Oscar! Our foreign exchange student from Sweden.
We were very excited to have these individuals enjoying the evening with us!
Just a reminder: Meeting next week is on WEDNESDAY instead of Tuesday!!

Tuesday Aug 6 - Club Assembly
We met today in club assembly and discussed a number of business items.
One of the important items was a discussion of the Peach Days float and the need to seriously consider an upgrade to the float. We have been pulling the float in the Peach days parade for many years, and have recently begun sharing it with the Ogden Club. But time has not been kind to it, thus the need for the upgrade.
It was decided that the float committee will do some sprucing up this year and then take seriously the prospect of a complete overhaul next year, possibly with help from surrounding clubs, offering them the opportunity to use it in their local parades.
Along those lines, we were presented with the Peach Days Raffle tickets in preparation for the big fund raiser. Only four weeks till Peach Days and lots of tickets to sell!
If you didn't make it to Rotary today, get in touch with Dan Price to pick up your allotment of tickets and get busy selling.
A reminder was made of upcoming meetings:
* Rotarians and Sons next week with Robby Gunther, Box Elder High School football coach
* Special membership meeting in two weeks with Brad and Annette Barber presenting on our service trip to Puerto PeƱasco Mexico last month - Remember to invite a non-Rotarian to meeting and invite them to join the club
* In three weeks will be our annual Club Steak Fry at Rotarian Dave Lewis' home. Always lots of good food and fellowship.
Hope to see each of you soon at any and all of the above events!

Brigham City Rotary met today at noon in the Members First Credit Union Building in Brigham City. We had a smaller than usual crowd, but still a good group to fellowship with.
President Kevin Blaylock spent a Rotary Minute talking about the International Theme: Engage Rotary, Change Lives. He asked for volunteers to share why they joined Rotary and how it has changed their lives. This will prove to be a very informative portion of upcoming meetings.
A hand selected quartet sang Happy Birthday to Brent Gillies in recognition of his aging this month.
Our program was arranged by Brent Gillies. We heard a presentation from David Pratt and Millie Peterson from VERACITY Networks Telecommunication Company. Mr. Pratt shared information about Veracity and the fiber network in Brigham City,as well as answered questions regarding UTOPIA and the positives it has been for Brigham City and our future.
It was a very informative program. Thanks to David and Millie for spending some time with us and to Brent for arranging the program.
A reminder was made to all of the Family Picnic scheduled for 6:30 pm, Tuesday July 30th at Rotary Constitution Park. Bring your family and your appetite and join us for food fun and fellowship.

Academy Square and a New Hotel
Mayor Dennis Fife spoke to the club today about the progress on the Academy Square and Hampton Inn hotel project. He reviewed the process and the milestones that have been taken since the city purchased the building. As well as the remaining hurdles needed to cross to finish up the project, including a couple of pieces of property needed to complete the "square" that are still "in negotiations".
Mayor Fife also explained more detail of the no interest loan that is being made available, explaining that the funds aren't from the City, but from the USDA and funneled through the city. City's smaller than 25000 residents qualify for, and are receiving these funds for economic development.
Currently, Hampton Inn is looking to break ground as soon as August and hopes to be a functional hotel by May of next year. And an "as yet unnamed" restaurant is looking at building as part of the project. The ultimate goal is a central focal point to Brigham City that could help with downtown revitalization.
From the City's website, an artists conception of the Academy building is viewable here:
